Yester-Me, Yester-You, Yesterday is a 1969 soul song written by Ron Miller and Bryan Wells, released by American Motown singer-songwriter-musician Stevie Wonder on the album My Cherie Amour 1969. The song continued Wonder's success on the pop charts. It reached 7 on the pop singles chart and become Wonder's ninth Top 10 single of the 1960s. The single fared even better on the UK singles chart where it reached 2 in November 1969, and at that time, it was Wonder's biggest UK hit. Yester Me Yester You Yesterday. A sad and annoying up-date!
This 2nd single of the TMG 1041 - 1052 EMI 12 singles in the collection where the majority of the tracks are listed as being taken from (in) individual greatest hits albums listed with STMA etc etc cat numbers hinting at stereo albums. not even 1/4 of the 24 tracks are in Stereo......

This single is a typical example of EMI's regular mastering gaff's, cock-up's etc etc where the paperwork does not match the finished and mastered cut product. The inital blame is with the tape vault and what tapes were lifted not checked, just assumed etc.
The A side has a new YTMG matrix YTMG 1042 -A1 and it is indeed in wonderful stereo
The B side has a new YTMG matrix YTMG 1042 -B1 however the wrong master tape was lifted (ie not the Stereo one as used on Greatest Hits Vol 1 but the mono single tape from 1965 ! Why? Lazyness, not wanting to look for the tape, lost the tape who knows? Who picked this up? Did not the cutting guy at Abbey Road not think ahhh a "Y" designation a stereo mix and cut to do? Can't be arsed tore-cut or wait for the right tape, sod it no one will care, just cut it put the Y in the stamping block job done, aww 5pm Tea time.

Avoid this half stereo half mono single Uptight is a fave of mine and has to be heard in it's stereo mix to get the full instrumentation, brass, vocals, percussion-tambourine etc etc lost in the mono wash.

An oh so rare UK EMI Tamla Motown 7" Retro.............IN STEREO note the YTMG stampers shame 99% of the others are all mono EMI not wishing to re-cut the mother plates naturally.

Most if not all spring 1969 + EMI-Bovema Netherlands Tamla Motown 45's are StereO magic and what a diff
Edwin Starr War All Jackson 5's I want You back ABC I'll Be There Mama's Pearl etc etc Spinners It's A Shame
The Supremes feat. Mary Wilson Nathan Jones Stone Love Up The Ladder etc etc and so on Klauss Ooberjmaine clearly had 2 ears over at EMI and had clout and budget.

EMI and Abbey Road got it so so wrong IMHO The Onion Song was gonna be the start of Stereo Motown UK singles what went wrong.

Ooberjmaine is a ficticious name! But it makes the point.
