Souvlaki review: If you've listened to Loveless a lot and want more shoegaze, this is a pretty good album to get. As their lovely critically acclaimed Souvlaki displays, Slowdive's approach towards Shoegaze is focused more on melody and song construction, whereas Loveless was prone to drift into blissful drones that while being very repetetive, were hypnotizingly beautiful. Both band's approaches to the genre are smart and beautiful in their own way, but whereas My Bloody Valentine was more experimental in approach, Slowdive truly made a pop album in verse-chorus-verse mentality. Souvlaki is a music album by Slowdive released in 1993. Souvlaki is ranked 125th in the overall chart, 26th in the 1990s, and 4th in the year 1993. The top rated tracks on this album are When The Sun Hits, Machine Gun and Alison. This album is rated in the top 1 of all albums on

Music On Vinyl: the worst reissue record label ever. This fantastic clean japanese double press is far from MOV pressings. Once I had the Outside Your Room EP from Creation, believe me there´s nothing to make a GREAT difference, it sounds great ! Thanks Japanese Fans !
  • Eigeni
Picked this up on eBay in NM condition. Vinyl is utterly quiet and flat, dynamics are warm with really nice depth, discs are heavy weight in a double-wide slipcase. even the labels are professionally done. don't believe the haters who poo-poo this version, it's really lovely. my only gripe is the last few tracks are out of order if you've spent the last 20 years listening to the cd with expanded tracks -- missing you is, well, missing; so tired is great but i didn't really need mousakka chaos (it's the demo of souvlaki space station); and good day sunshine isn't supposed to be the final song. minor gripes though! with some concerted internetting you can find this too -- highly recommended. i like my music loud and this sounds amazing at full volume. (my systems: 1. pioneer sx-1050, marantz 6300 w/stanton 981HZS cart + Heresy II's. 2. pioneer sx-1010, marantz 6100 w/stantion 681EEE cart and Kef Reference 102s w/Kube.)

I've been bamboozled! Picked this up at my local used book/record store last summer. I thought for sure it was a genuine Japanese print. What evs. Can't comment on the sound quality as I have an ever expanding vinyl collection yet no vinyl player as of yet. Anyways Slowdive is playing Dallas in a few days and I plan on bringing this album to get it signed. I just hope they don't reject it please god.
  • Kagrel
Did they sign your lp ? How was Dallas ?
  • Wire
Haven't heard the original LP or the MOV reissue but this sounds awesome to my ears - nice full sound and the bonus tracks make it worth your while. The artwork does have a greenish tinge but you'd never really pick it unless told. Recommended
  • Wyameluna
more songs and sound pretty better the music on vinyl repress. got this!!!
  • Landaron
Damn, I bought this at Amoeba Records years ago not knowing it was this version. That's pretty cool. Sound is not bad whatsoever, especially for a supposed bootleg. Very well made.
  • Hallolan
I just found this today used for $13 and have not listened to this but visually it's a top quality print reproduction. Sleeve, inner sleeve and labels are superior to my eyes. I have the MOV so i'm happy to have the extra tracks on vinyl. Likely my ears won't tell the difference were the sound was sourced from :)
  • Kulabandis
what happened to this pressing ?? it has vanished?? i dont care how bad it is i still want to own a copy, if any of the old seller have a few left message me please
  • Syleazahad
The people commenting on the bad sound of this bootleg obviously don't know what "good" sounding music on vinyl sounds like.Even for a bootleg, there is NOTHING wrong with the sound quality here. If you want a shoddy, sh*tty sounding version of this LP, feel free to pay $50 for the terrible MOV pressing out there.Or, if you want the real thing, go track down an original UKpressing and be prepared to pay about $300+ for 10 songs. This version gives you 4 bonus tracks -- all excellent -- and great sound. You shouldn't feel bad about buying this because the bands don't get a dime for the MOV pressings either, so those might as well be bootlegs too. For the budget-minded LP buyer who wants a great album with great sound and extra bonus tracks, this version -- NOT the overpriced, mishandled MOV version -- is your best bet.
  • Fhois
I have the MOV Souvlaki pressing, and it sounds great. Not every MOV release satisfies (Just for a Day does not sound as good), and I can't address any of the other issues raised, but I paid around $20-25 (can't remember exactly) and it was well worth it.
  • PC-rider
Get a life, eh? Bold words coming from the President and CEO of Music On Vinyl, no doubt. Why else would you be so asshurt about someone calling out your shitty European bootleg label who sells terrible digitally-sourced pressings at inflated prices? Gee, I can only wonder..If the sound quality of this pressing bothers you, maybe you should "check your turntable", eh McMurph? Seems to be your de facto reply to everything else around here...just like how surface noise = samples used on the album, right? You are, without question, the biggest joke of an "audiophile" I have ever come across on the interwebz. It's a wonder the bozos who run Discogs haven't shown your imposter ass the door already. You're a disgrace to the global vinyl community, sight unseen.
  • Xangeo
I paid 24 dollars for my MOV copy, which sounds amazing lol. Who's paying 50 bucks for theirs? :-/
  • Jode
Terrible bootleg pressed from a CD. Please don't anyone fall for the fake comments on here. They're most probably written by the people who made/distributed this. MrBlack was selling multiple copies of this on eBay when it first surfaced - advertising it as a 'rare Japanese Fan Club Edition.' Please don't waste your money on this counterfeit version.
  • Captain America
Well I just got a copy of the Music on Vinyl Version of this release which is a single LP($30 ouch) compared to the double vinyl version and I was hoping this version would be much better than the original, I personally own all the version and the double vinyl Japanese is much warmer and has more depth, I dont know what the source is for all of them but the Japanese double Lp IMHO is a listening experience. The bottom end is much more warp and deep. Also you get all the bonus tracks and I dont think it cost as much as the original or the new reissue which was probably taken from CD as well. Whatever the case maybe, its a monumental record.
  • Iesha
You're despicable. I hope no one else falls for this weasels counterfeit records.
  • Dominator
Oh yeah, if you like vinyl mastered from CDs and pressed onto inferior vinyl than you should indeed go for this. As an owner of the original release I had the chance to play it back to back with this counterfeit but... make up your own ears. But I doubt that Happytheman even saw or played this thing because otherwise there would be no denying that this thing IS illegal. You can see it on the strange green-ish cover that simply looks cheap and you can hear it. Don't spend a lot of money for this - it is nothing more than a CD on cheap plastic
  • Manazar
This thing is nothing but a cheap counterfeit made from a CD, it looks and sounds terrible, even has "Made In England" printed on all four labels.
  • Marg
Awful pressing...already have the RMA and return label ready to go out tomorrow.
  • JoJogar
Well, I just happened upon these comments AFTER my copy shipped from InSound in the U.S. I hope it's a diff release than this one as the tracklisting is different. Review to come...if it turns out to be a dismal copy it's going back.
  • Gaua
Moondawn This thing is nothing but a cheap counterfeit made from a CD, it looks and sounds terrible, even has "Made In England" printed on all four labels. **Well, I was skeptical of this release but was I amazed at the quality and great sound found here. An amazing find, counterfeit or not - quality A+! Sounds like an envious, hipster fan left a comment based on pictures or maybe they spent to much on a Cd, who knows?! Opinion is opinion, love having this classic this way-period!Buy this if you see it-SO worth the buy (if uunder $25), better than the original, thin, easy warp vinyl it came on - now it's 2 lp, thick vinyl, Xtra tracks, what else could ya want from this classic?!P.S. Yes, I have heard it, I owned both, sold the original for WAY too much to a fan (maybe you!) when I found this...
